Indonesia sends new ambassador to Somalia

The State Minister for Foreign Affairs and international cooperation, Abdulkadir Ahmed-Kheir Abdi, has received diplomatic credentials from the new ambassador of the Republic of Indonesian to the Federal Republic of Somalia, Soehadjono Sastromihardjo on Tuesday.

During the ceremony, bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries were discussed and while efforts are being made to preserve and develop them in various fields for the mutual interest of both Muslims states.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs and international cooperation, Abdulkadir Ahmed-Kheir Abdi said Mogadishu and Jakarta have long-standing historical trade relations dating back to the 10th century based on mutual cooperation and trade.

Indonesian aid agencies are involved in the humanitarian assistance in Somalia by providing livelihood support to Somali population mainly during the holy month of Ramadan and Eid festivals.

The Southeast Asian nation with over 264 million populations also provides studies to Somali students while hosting an unspecified number of them as refugees.
