The new president of Southwest state pays his first visit to Hudur

The Newly elected Southwest state President, Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed has paid his first visit to Hudur town amid a humanitarian crisis in the region.

Mohamed who is leading a delegation from his government has been welcomed by local authorities at the airport.

Sources privy to his trip said the leader will be assessing the security and humanitarian situation of the town and its surrounding areas.

He is expected to hold talks with the elders and local authorities in the town.

The town has been under a siege imposed by Al-Shabaab for the last four years forcing thousands to flee from the town over food security.

Somali government forces backed African Union mission in Somalia (AMISOM) seized the town in March 2014 after fierce fighting with Al-Shabaab.

Meanwhile, President Mohamed is expected to visit several towns in his state including the designated capital city of the southwest state, Barawe, and Diinsoor.

Mohamed, a former energy minister, was elected as the president of the state in a presidential election which took place in Baidoa on 19th of this month.
