Somali police escape roadside bomb near Mogadishu

At least one person was killed and several, including a bodyguard, were wounded in a remote-controlled landmine blast near Mogadishu, the Somali capital on Saturday.

The IED explosion happened in Forilow area located on the outskirts of Mogadishu around midday, targeting a vehicle carrying Abdi Shoshow, the Police officer.

Al-Shabaab has released a statement, claiming the responsibility for the attack, adding that at least six staffers at Benadir regional administration are dead in today’s landmine blast.

The attack came hours after a car bomb has killed a staffer working for Somalia’s Ministry of Religious Affairs indentified as Faud Saleban Jama, while wounding three others.

Mogadishu has seen a surge in car bomb attacks and killings in the past few weeks as the government is trying to enforce law and order in the war-torn capital.
