Tension runs high in Beledweyne, central Somalia

A tense of a fight is reportedly running high in Beledweyne, the regional capital of Hiran on Saturday following the replacement of the city’s mayor Ali Dhuh Abdi.

The Tension began building up after troops loyal to the sacked mayor laid a siege on the local government offices early in the morning in protest of the dismissal of Abdi.

The latest reports reaching Radio Shabelle’s desk indicate that the deputy mayor on the security affairs has also been fired in a degree from the Ministry of Interior for HirShabelle state.

The local residents fear a new clan fighting in the city which is currently facing security threats from the Al Qaeda-linked militant group Al Shabaab, according to the sources.
