Former Al shababa leader surrenders to Southwest state

Former Al shabaab spokesman and deputy leader Sheikh Mukhtar Robow (Abu Mansur) has surrendered himself to the authorities in Hudur town on Sunday morning.

Reports said Abu Mansur, along with loyalist fighters reached Hudur, and subsequently surrendered to Southwest state officials, including the state’s President Sharif Sheikh Aden.

The surrender of Robow came after months of indirect talks with Southwest authorities as he based in Abal, his hometown located in the outskirt of Hudur city, according to sources.

Somalia’s minister of Defense Abdirashid Abdullahi, deputy chief of National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) arrived in Hudur early this morning to meet Mukhtar Robow.

Robow who defected from Al shabaab in 2013, came under attack from Al shabaab last week, after U.S. state department has removed $5 million bounty on his head in July.
