UK hosts major Int’l London conference on Somalia

The UK government has launched today a major two-day international conference in London, to accelerate progress on security sector reform, and the humanitarian crises in Somalia.

Today’s meeting was attended by Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, deputy PM, guests from Somalia diaspora and international organisations, including the United Nations.

The second phase of the high-level London conference on Somalia, will kick off on Thursday, and will co-chair by President Farmajo and UK’s Prime Minister Theresa May.

Leaders from over 40 countries, including the East Africa will attend the crucial meeting.

They will agree a new international partnership needed to keep Somalia on course for increased peace and prosperity to help the country hold universal suffrage elections in 2020.

The London conference focuses on resolving the economic and political issues facing the country and promote inclusive governance and social stability in Somalia.
