Landmine blast at security checkpoint kills 3 soldiers

At least three Somali soldiers were reported to have been killed, and five others wounded in a landmine explosion at an army checkpoint in Lower Shabelle region on Monday.

The blast has resulted from an IED planted a main checkpoint at Kabtan-laas village, near Janaale district in Lower Shabelle region, according a witness who spoke to Radio Shabelle.

Janaale is a main Al shabaab stronghold in lower Shabelle region, about 100Km southwest of Mogadishu. The militants used the area for planning attacks on SNA and AMISOM forces.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, but the military commanders in the region blamed Al shabaab for the checkpoint explosion which left three soldiers dead.
