Shabelle Media Network marks its 15th anniversary of existence

MOGADISHU, Somalia – Shabelle Media Network (SMN), the leading and most popular independent media outlet in Somalia is today celebrating the 15th anniversary of its establishment.

The privately-owned Media Network is marking the day when the Radio first came to the airwaves on 6th May 2002 in Merca, the regional capital of Lower Shabelle region, just 15 years ago.

During the 15 years on air, Shabelle Media Network (SMN) has broadcasted several unique and quality programs that has revived the hopes of the people, these programs include drought response program.

The Network expanded its reach to several regions in the country, mainly south and central Somalia with ambitions to get unbiased news to the listeners in the areas where its FM frequency reaches regularly.

The people across the world, are now able to listen the news of Radio Shabelle in both Somali and English languages and the daily programs through live stream, as well as on the social media network.

Shabelle Media Network (SMN) lost 13 journalists, including directors and many injured in the past 15 years of serving for the people of Somalia, because of their journalistic work.
