Al Shabaab claims bomb attack on WFP convoy

The Al Qaeda-linked Al shabaab militants claimed credit for a roadside bomb targeted on a convoy carrying WFP employees near Somali capital, Mogadishu on Sunday, April 16.

In a statement posted on its affiliated websites, the militants said they used a remote controlled landmine to attack the WFP convoy and its escorting soldiers at KM-13 area.

According to Al shabaab, the land mine blast tore through one of the vehicles and inflicted casualties on WFP staff members. There was no independent confirmation on deaths.

So far, the World Food Program (WFP) did not comment on the attack, and the claim of Al shabaab of killing aid workers.

The convoy came under attack as it was returning from IDP camps outside Mogadishu.
