Somali Lawmakers approve the cabinet after deadlock

Somali Parliament has unanimously approved the new cabinet by the country’s Prime Minster Hassan Ali Khaire on Wednesday, ending days of standoff over the lineup.

According to the deputy speaker Abdiweli Sheikh Ibrahim Mudey, 224 out of the 241 lawmakers present in parliament voted to approve the cabinet, while 15 rejected it.

Only two legislators abstained from the vote, Mudey said.

The new cabinet which consists of 26 minister, and an equal of deputies, with additional of a deputy PM was sworn-in shortly after the approval at the Parliament house in Mogadishu.
