Somalia: Heavy clan battle renews in Marka city

Fierce fighting between heavily armed rival clans has erupted on Saturday in the port town of Marka, which serves as the regional capital of Somalia’s southern Lower Shabelle region.

The tribal Clash broke out on Saturday at around 8:00 a.m. and continued till 1:00 p.m. local time in Marka, according to residents who spoke to Radio Shabelle by phone.

The two clan militias are fighting over the control of the strategic seaside city which has been under Al shabaab control for 8 years before they were being pushed out by SNA in 2012.

On Friday, similar clashes have been reported in the town, which left at least one person dead. The tense of the fighting is mounting and there were no efforts to end the clan feud.
