Somali candidate opts out of race for President

A Somali Presidential candidate Abdullah Ali Hassan, has announced Saturday that he dropped out of the contest for Villa Somalia, according to a statement.

“After having seen the over-numbered candidates running for President that shows the political turmoil in the country, I decided to quit my candidacy,” he said in a statement.

The presidential candidate has dropped out of the race for the country’s top seat on the eve of his speech at the parliament, to address to Lawmakers and senators on his agenda.

Currently, 23 candidates, among them outgoing president and PM are vying for president, and will contest in a secret ballot in Mogadishu next Wednesday, February 8.
