Afgoye residents concern over AMISOM shelling

Local residents in Afgoye, a town located about 30Km south-west of Mogadishu have alarmed over rise of indiscriminate shelling by African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).

Speaking to Radio Shabelle, resident Mohamed Farah Yusuf said they are being targeted in mortar bombardments by AMISOM, in revenge for the Al shabaab attacks on their bases.

He said AMISOM forces have fired mortar rounds at several villages in Afgoye, killing at least three unarmed civilians followinh Monday’s attack by Al shabaab fighters.

AMISOM randomly shells the town, to repulse Al shabaab attack on the AU and SNA base in Afgoye district in Lower Shabelle, which has been beset by worsening insecurity in the past.

AMISOM was accused of civilian killings and bombing residential areas in Lower Shabelle region over the past two months as it fights against Al shabaab.
