MP Mudey defeats Farah to become 1st deputy speaker
The lawmakers of the Somali parliament elected Abdiweli Sheikh Ibrahim Mudey as first deputy speaker following a secret ballot vote in Mogadishu on Thursday.
Mr Muday has received 163 votes, defeating his close contestant Farah Abdulkadir who got 93 votes during the second round of the voting, according to the polls result.
At least 257 MPs have cast their votes among six candidates, including the winner and Farah Sheikh Abdulkadir, former justice minister of the outgoing federal government.
Abdiweli Sheikh Ibrahim Mudey, 53-years-old, has served as 1st deputy speaker of former Transitional Federal Government (TFG) parliament between 2010 – 2012.
