UN envoy hold talks with key elders in Beledweyne
The Unites Nations especial envoy for Somalia Michael Keating has held talks with key elders, including Ugaas Hassan Ugaas Khilaf in Beledweyne, the capital of Hiiraan province.
Mr Keating said in a Twitter post, that he met with Hiiraan governor and key elders in Beledweyne city, and discussed with them drought, displacement and local reconciliation.
The UN envoy has voiced concern over the sever drought in the region which has hit the rural areas, where it killed many people and their livestock.
He called on the next Federal Government of Somalia and the new HirShabelle adminstration to provide basic services to to the suffering people and address the drought.
Hiiran elders council chairperson Da’ar Hersi Nur said people in the region need true and effective reconciliation more than new administration, citing Hir-Shabelle state of Somalia.
