Former PM announces his candidacy for president
Former Somali prime minister Ali Mohamed Gedi has on Saturday announced his candidacy campaign in the much-delayed forthcoming presidential election due to be held in December28, 2016.
Mr Gedi who served as the country’s PM between 2004-2007 has promised to revive the economy and restore peace by wiping out Al-Shabaab from their major strongholds in the Horn of Africa nation.
“I decided to announce today my candidacy for Somalia president and partake in the coming election. If elected, I will revive the country’s economy and re-establish strong army to restore peace,” he said.
Up to 15 presidential candidates, including incumbent President Hassan Sheikh and ex transitional federal government president, Sharif Sheikh Ahmed are vying for presidency.
