Somali MP accused FIEIT of working with president

The newly elected Somali lawmaker Abdullahi Godah Barre has blamed the country’s electoral commission for working outgoing president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud who is standing for re-election.

Mr Barre who served as the interior minister said the Federal Indirect Electoral Implementation Team (FIEIT) is responsible for the bribery, fraud and intimidation of voters of the ongoing parliamentary polls.

He added FIEIT chairman Omar Dhagey is corrupting the election as he is luring delegates to vote for pro-president’s new MPs to win the forthcoming president election set to take place 28 December.

“The president and FIEIT chairman lost confidence from the public since we are abusing government power, We want the FEIT to be credible and fair, so that they can get the public’s confidence,” he said.

Former Somalia’s interior and federal affairs minister H.E Abdullah Godah Barre revealed that FIEIT has picked up most of the list the electoral delegates who are voting the 275 seats of the next parliament.

Barre’s remarks came amid increased allegations of electoral fraud in the ongoing Lower House elections in the regional states of the horn of Africa.
