A National Consultative Forum opens in Mogadishu
President of the term-ended federal government of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has opened a national consultative forum (NLF) in Mogadishu on Wednesday.
The meeting brought together presidents from the federal member states, the central government leaders and international representatives, including the UN envoy for Somalia.
The attendants include prime minister Omar Abdirashid Sharmarke and parliament speaker Mohamed Sheikh Osman Jawari. The upcoming presidential election was high on the agenda.
Over 14,000 delegates from across the nation are now voting for a new 275-seat federal parliament which will elect a president in mid December, according to the electoral schedule.
The leaders at the meeting are discussing ways to hold the presidential election on time and solve rising concerns over the ongoing parliamentary election by some clans and Puntland.
