Kenyan airport briefly closed after plane from Somalia crash-lands

Kenyan airport authorities on Sunday evening temporarily closed Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) runaway after an aircraft from Somalia crash-landed.

A statement from Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) said the incident has affected departures and landings at the airport, one of the busiest in Africa.

No passenger was injured, the statement said.

Officials said an aircraft from Somalia made an emergency landing at JKIA and veered off the runaway at around 4:55 p.m..

The runway was still inaccessible by Sunday evening and all arriving planes were being diverted to Mombasa and other airports.

Airport officials said efforts to normalize the situation were ongoing but they had received complaints from several passengers.
