One soldier dead, several injured in bomb blast at army base
At least one Somali government soldier was killed and several others were wounded in a remote-controlled land mine blast at an army base near Jowhar city, south of Somalia.
The attack was the result of an improvised explosives device (IED) planted at an army outpost manned by SNA in Buno-sabun area located between Jowhar and Mahaday towns.
Confirming the incident, Mahada district commissioner Ahmed Hussein Abdulle said SNA troops have suffered heavy losses from the attack on the army camp.
Al Shabaab has in an online statement claimed responsibility for the bomb attack, saying they targeted senior security officers in the area near Jowhar, the regional capital of Middle Shabelle province.
The militants said they have killed at least four Somali army personnel in the IED attack.
