Somali MP dies of heart attack in Garowe city
A member of the newly elected lower house chamber of Somalia’s upcoming federal parliament has suddenly died of heart attack in a hotel in Garowe city.
According to officials in Puntland state, MP Dahir Hajji Geelle was short lived after being elected as a new member of the federal parliament in Garowe.
Late Geelle who served as a Somali MP since 2009, and an outgoing lawmaker secured 46 votes to retain his seat in the House of the People from Puntland.
The death of the new MP comes a midst a growing rift between the sub-clans in Puntland over the hotly contested election of parliament’s lower house seats in Garowe town.
The International community and the United States of America have voiced concern over the alleged corruption, vote buying and intimidation in the electoral process of lower house polls.
