Premier urges IDPs from Galkayo to return home
Somali PM Omar Abdirashid Sharmarke has called on the IDPs fled from Galkayo conflict to return home as ceasefire reached by Galmudug and Puntland states takes into effect on Friday.
The caretaker Somali premier said families can now go back to Galkayo and assured them that the conflict is over and both sides have withdrawn from the battlefields in the town.
Armed clashes in Galkayo town in central Somalia left hundreds of people dead and many more injured despite several sevel ceasefire agreements by the rival regional adminstrations.
Galkayo has existed as a divided city due to longstanding local tensions. Fighting between armed forces from Puntland and Galmadug forced thousands of residents to seek refuge in nearby villages.
