Al shabaab claims killing 5 AU soldiers in base attack
A Somali official says Al shabaab has fired salvo of mortar bombs at a military outpost belonging to AU mission in Somalia (AMISOM) in El-Baraf village in southern Somalia.
Confirming the attack, Mahaday district commissioner Ahmed Hussein said 7 mortars were fired toward El-Baraf area on Sunday, with several shells landing in AMISOM army base.
He said the African Union soldiers at the base have suffered casualties in mortar bombing by Al shabaab. He did not elaborate the number of the AMISOM soldiers killed in the attack.
Al shabaab has claimed responsibly for the attack, saying it killed 5 Burundian soldiers serving with the African Union mission in Somalia (AMISOM) in Sunday’s mortar barrage.
AMISOM did not say a word on the Al shabaab claim of killing AU peacekeepers in the attack in El-Baraf area, about 30Km south of Mahaday district in Middle Shabelle region.
