Puntland says Gov’t helped ISIL capture Qandalla city

An official in the semi-autonomous state of Puntland has accused the Somali  federal government of assisting pro-Islamic state militants in the capture of a port town in Bari region on Wednesday.

The governor of Nugal region under Puntland state Omar Abdullahi Mohamed Farawayne ISIL fighters could not take the town without a help from the term-ended Mogadishu-based federal government.

Puntland state has in the past blamed Somali government of backing Galmudug in the ongoing fighting between its troops and Galmudug in Galkayo town in central Somalia, where dozens were killed in recent clashes.

Somali government did not comment on the Puntland allegation about the support of ISIL in the capture of Qandalla town located east of Bosaso city, the commercial hub of Puntland on Wednesday.

It was the first time that the ISIS captured a town in northeast of Somalia since the group declared its presence at Golis mountains in the Puntland early this year.
