4 killed in a heavy fighting in Lower Shabelle region
At least four people were killed, several others wounded in a heavy fighting between Al Shababaab militants and Somali government troops in Lower Shabelle region, a resident said on Saturday.
The battle is raging on for the second day in the southern strategic district of Km-50 in Somalia’s southern Lower Shabelle region. Saturday’s fight erupted after Al Shabaab raided army checkpoint.
The African Union troops, AMISOM are reportedly backing Somali forces in the fighting against Al Shabaab, according to the resident who spoke t Radio Shabelle on condition of anonymity.
The Al shabaab militants have been waging attacks on Somali government troops at Km-50 settlement, and elsewhere in the region for the past few weeks.
last week, Al shabaab raid on Afgoye town has killed at least 15 soldiers, among them 6 top officers, while over 35 others have been wounded and taken to hospitals.
