Somali Elder: Ethiopia won’t bring peace to Galkayo
A prominent Somali traditional elder Mohamed Hassan Haad said Ethiopia has no interest to mediate between Galmudug and Puntland states to end the recurrent fighting in Galkayo town.
Speaking in an interview with Radio Shabelle, the elder encouraged the two nighbouring states of Puntland and Galmudug to swiftly open a constructive dialogue and seek alternatives for the conflict
He called for an immediate end to the fighting in Galkacyo between Galmudug and Puntland troops and protect civilians from casualties. The battle has left scores dead, while thousands fled their houses.
Radio Shabelle’s reporter in the city says a precarious situation has returned to Galkayo on Friday. He added residents raise fears that a battle could escalate in Galkayo town
Galkayo town is divided into two zones, with the northern part of the city forming part of Puntland state, while the southern part is under the Galmudug administration.
