Al shabaab seizes town from Somali military forces
Heavily gun-toting Al shabaab fighters mounted in pick-trucks have retaken control of a strategic town in Lower Shabelle region of southern Somalia on Sunday.
Local residents reported heavy shelling on Somali government troops’ bases before the militants moved in the city, and seized the administrative HQ and police station.
Reports said several houses burnt down as both sides exchanged heavy and small weapons, including artillery during the combat in Muuri, 13Km away from Afgoye.
Details of the casualties are yet sketchy. Sporadic gunfire could be heard still in the area.
