Swearing in of Hir-Shabelle parliament postponed
The reports reaching at Radio Shabelle’s desk indicate that the swearing in 0f the newly-elected members of Hir-Shabelle parliament has been postponed over undisclosed circumstances.
Meanwhile, Somalia’s outgoing parliament speaker Mohamed Sheikh Osman Jawari has cancelled a trip to Jowhar, the host of the Hiiran-middle Shabelle state formation meeting.
The caretaker Somali parliament speaker was expected to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the regional assembly lawmakers on Sunday.
Sources in Jowhar said the traditional elders at the state formation conference in the city are in deadlock over the selection of the 91-member parliament of Hir-Shabelle federal administration.
Somalia’s interior ministry wants the MPs of the new assembly to elect a president for Hir-shabelle in October 15, before the country’s indirect parliamentary and presidential elections.
