Kenya step up Surveillance On Al-Shabaab Activities

Kenya security agents have stepped up surveillance on Al-Shabaab activities especially on the porous border of Kenya-Somalia.

This is in an effort to bar the Al Qaeda affiliated Al-Shabaab from crossing over and the attempts to infiltrate the country to mount terror attacks.

According to police reports Kenya has witnessed relative calmness. Security forces, KDF and Police have relentlessly repulsed the sporadic attempted terror attacks in the past months in areas such as Wajir, Mandera counties in NEP Kenya bordering Somalia.

Security have mapped out the militant hotspots and entry points, closely monitored of their intentions to attack security installations  and medical facilities along the porous border in an effort to replenish/loot arms and ammunition, drugs and other medical supplies.

Kenya tourism sector and gravely suffered from terror attacks but security intervention has seen the sector slowly bounce back.

Government has stepped its naval patrols in the coastal Indian Ocean waters in order to prevent militants coming into the country via the open waters.

According to IG of Police, Joseph Boinnet, counter-terrorism measures have led to sustainability of programs, projects, initiatives and reforms aimed at addressing the underlying factors and conditions that breed terrorism, radicalism and other criminal activities.

“The threat posed by the Al-Shabaab and other similar terror groups operating in the region remain our main focus and as such the police will not relent till the groups are totally neutralized,” IG Boinnet said.
