SMN calls for Int’l inquiry in continuing killings on staff

The top management of Shabelle Media Network has called for an international investigation into the continuing attacks and targeted assassinations against its staff members and reporters in Mogadishu.

Shabelle Media Network, a leading and popular independent media group in Mogadishu has experienced hardships and lost over a dozens of reporters, and directors over the past 10 years.

Abdiaziz Mohamed Ali Hajji, a senior producer and reporter has been killed in Mogadishu last Tuesday, becoming the 13th journalist murdered in Somalia since the network was founded just 14 years ago.

Abukar Sheikh Mohamud, the managing director of Shabelle Media Network has called on international community to help arrest and bring before court the perpetrators who killed the station’s journalists.

The director said the murder of Abdiaziz Mohamed Ali Hajji comes as the country is approaching to a transitional period of elections  and the government should prevent the reporters from the assassinations.

Dr Dufle, who is also a lawmaker has sent condolences to the family and friends of Hajji who has been shot dead by unidentified gunmen on Tuesday. The killers escaped the scene after the shooting.
