Somalia: Renowned businessman shot dead in Marka town

Unknown gunmen, thought to be Al Shabaab fighters have shot and killed and a well-known businessman in Marka town, lies about 100Km south of Mogadishu, witnesses and relatives said said.

The deceased man whose name has been released as Hussein Mohamed Ahmed was killed after gunmen broke into his house located Obosibka area in the town, relatives said.

Former Marka District Commissioner, Mohamed Yarisow (Young) told Radio Shabelle that the victim was also former deputy commissioner of Planning and Cooperation of Marka administration.

Mr. Mohamed believed that he was killed over his water-well that is always fetched by African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) troops.

“He repeatedly received threatening message from Al Shabaab before he was shot dead,” according to Mohamed.

Somalia troops launched operation meant to arrest the killers who carried out the murder.

No group has so far claimed responsibility for the killing.
