A treasurer steals $204,000 from Central Bank

Benadir regional court judge Dr Mukhtar Nur Abukar has announced on Monday that about $204,000 has been stolen from the central bank’s branch at Mogadishu seaport.

The judge said in a press conference in Mogadishu the director  of the central bank’s office in the harbor Abdi Mohamed Abukar is the key suspect in the money robbery.

Somali security forces have since started an investigation into the theft and are trying to arrest the suspect, who is reportedly hiding out inside Mogadishu.

In the past police failed to detain the suspect following a resistance from central bank deputy governor Maryan Mo’alin. In August, a cashier Robbed $530,000 from Somalia’s Central Bank and Fled from the country.
