AU reviews security plans for Somalia’s 2016 Election

The AU Military Operations Coordination Committee (MOCC) met in Djibouti today to review security plans for Somalia’s electoral process.

The meeting discussed security support to the electoral process due to start in Somalia later this month and joint security operations aimed at degrading Al-Shabaab.

Re-organization, training of the Somali National Army (SNA) and payment of troop allowances to AMISOM forces was also a subject of deliberations.

AU Commissioner for Peace and Security Ambassador Smail Chergui; and Chiefs of Defence Forces (CDFs) of Djibouti, Ethiopia and Uganda, the Deputy CDF of Burundi and Commander of the Kenya Army attended the meeting.

Also present at the meeting was the Special Representative of the Chairperson of the AU Commission (SRCC), for Somalia Ambassador Francisco Caetano Madeira.
