UN slams beach restaurant attack in Somali Capital

United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) has strongly condemned a deadly car bomb, and gun attack on beachfront restaurant in Mogadishu on Thursday night by Al Shabaab militants.

“The UN condemns last night’s attack on Banadir Beach Hotel in Mogadishu, and sends condolences to families of victims,” UNSOM said in a statement posted on its Twitter Account on Friday.

At least ten people, comprising of six civilians, two members of the security forces and two of the attackers died in the attack that lasted for  8 hours. Banadir beach restaurant lies near Turkish Embassy.

A spokesperson for Mogadishu’s mayor said in a press statement on Friday that Somali federal government security forces had captured one of the bombers alive with serious wounds.

Al shabaab has claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it killed senior Somali government officials, according to Andalus Radio, the mouthpiece channel of the militants, citing Sheikh Abdulaziz Abu Musab.
