Militia fighters attack Al Shabaab base in Somalia

Local militia fighters, thought to be clan loyalists have staged an overnight gun attack on Al Shabaab main base near Beledweyne city, in Central Somalia.

The attack took place at Luq-Jelow village, some 20Km west of Beledweyne city on Friday night, according to local residents who spoke to Radio Shabelle.

The details of the casualties are sketchy, due to the remoteness of the area which is under the control of Al Shabaab militants, linked with Al Qaeda.

Dahir Amin Jesow, a member of Somali parliament said at least three Al Shabaab fighters, including a middle-ranking commander were killed in the gunfight.

The attack comes weeks after a traditional elder was beheaded in the area by suspected Al Shabaab members, despite the group denies involvement.
