Somali troops retake new village from Al Shabaab

Somali National Army (SNA) soldiers secured control of a key area near the town of Jowhar in Southern Somalia, following combat with Al Shabaab fighters on Tuesday.

The SNA forces poured into Madah-Kisi village, which lies in the outskirts of Jowhar, the provincial capital of Middle Shabelle, after stiff resistance from the militants.

The fighting between SNA and Al Shabaab has led to the deaths and injuries of unspecified number of people, according to residents who spoke to Radio Shabelle.

Somali federal government forces are now in full control of the area, with reports of fears that the SNA could make a retreat as happened earlier.
