Lawmaker: Govt failed to announce election deadline

A member of Somali parliament Sharif Mohamed Abdalla, has accused the outgoing federal government  led by president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to hold the election on its deadline.

Speaking to Radio Shabelle, the lawmaker has voiced concern over the current political situation, as the mandate of the parliament and government is set to expire later this year.

The PM has warned a postponement of the 2016 parliamentary and presidential elections, that could plunge the country into chaos and political turmoil.

Somali leaders have agreed to hold an election based on the clan formula known as (4.5), paving the way for one man, one vote in 2020 after series of consultative meetings.
