Gunmen launch Gun Attack On Army Base near Afgoye

Suspected Al Shabaab militants have launched massive gun attack on Somali army base at a remote area outside Mogadishu on Saturday night, a Govt official said.

Mahdi Ahmed Hassan, the deputy commissioner of Afgoye district said Somali troops repelled the attack on SNA base at Mararey area, 6Km away from the town last night and killed several fighters.

Mr Hassan has added that Somali forces are in full control of the military base after driving the suspected militants from the area during heavy gunfight that continued throughout the night.

Pro-Al Shabaab media, citing anonymous militant commander reported that the fighters have inflicted heavy losses on the Somali army soldiers in the attack, but did elaborate the number.

In a separate incident, unknown gunmen have shot and killed a local businessman at a marketplace in Afgoye town, 30Km south-west of Mogadishu, Somali capital.
