Jubbaland Is Accused in Large-Scale Theft of Food Aid

A governor accused several ministers in Kismayo-based Jubbaland administration of diverting food aid meant to Somali families effected by drought and famine in Gedo region.

Speaking with Radio Shabelle over the phone, Gedo governor Ahmed Abdulle Anjeh said Jubbaland interior minister and other high-ranking officials sold the food aid in Kismayo market.

Anjeh said thousands of sacks of grain and other supplies intended for famine victims have been stolen by Jubbaland minister of interior and then he sold on the black market for a profit.

Hundreds of thousands of children are starving in parts of southern Somalia, as aid international agencies are unable to address the humanitarian crises due to insecurity.
