Two opposing meetings held in Mogadishu

Two opposing meetings have been held in Somali capital, Mogadishu on Wednesday as the country’s president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has announced his presidential candidacy for second term in office.

Ahmed Ali Abdirahman, an elder who attended an anti-president meeting told Radio Shabelle that most of Hawiye clan does not want Mr Mohamud to be elected again, accusing his of leadership incompetence.

For his part, Hajji Hassan Buule, who is among the elders who convened in the  pro-president meeting has called on the others opposition elders to support the president and work towards peace.

Ahmed Gaari, another elder said Somalia has tired of conflict and disagreement, and not it the time to join hands and move the country to good governance and stability.

Somalia is currently at cross-road and preparing to hold a general elections of parliamentary and presidential elections due to be held in later this year, 2016.
