Relative calm returns to Somali town after SNA retreat

A relative calm has today returned to the southern port city of Marka after Al Shabaab militants recaptured it from Somali federal government forces on Monday.

Despite the normalcy, the local business remained shut and traders are not back on the streets and selling their foodstuffs, according to the local residents.

African Union mission in Somalia (AMISOM) is reportedly massing troops outside the city, as they are preparing a joint offensive with SNA to retake the coastal town from Al Shabaab fighters.

Reports said AMISOM it will pull its soldiers out of their bases near Marka if Somali troops are not willing to regain the town from Al Shabaab.
